The third European Congress of Chemical Regions took place on the 6 October 2005 in the Fiera Milano. About 250 representatives from politics, administration, science and industry used the opportunity to discuss joint challenges and possibilities for cooperation between the chemical regions. The major topics of the Congress were Chemical industry, a motor for sustainability in Europe; New perspectives of REACH; European Research and Innovation in chemical regions and Growth and new structural funds in chemical regions. In reference to the recent vote of the European Parliament´s Environment Committee on the REACH Proposal the European Chemical Regions have jointly agreed on the "Milan Declaration" that states their demand for a workable and unburocratic legislation. The declaration also stresses the joint ECRN position in the area of European research and innovation, Growth and regional development as well as sustainable development.
