Assessment System for Employer Training - ASET

A best practice example for assessment of in-house and external training to national standards, for Process Industries employers in ECRN member regions in the UK.

What is National Skills Academy Process Industries?

The National Skills Academy Process Industries is an employer-led centre of excellence launched to address skills and training needs throughout the chemical, polymer, and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors.

The Academy aims to help employers create a highly skilled workforce capable of competing on a global stage as well as promoting the process industries as a progressive and exciting career choice. One of its aims is to encourage employers to engage in frontline staff training so that their current workforce can achieve accredited qualifications to an industry-wide Gold Standard, developed by the Academy and Cogent Sector Skills Council (see details below).

Businesses in the UK ECRN member regions are taking advantage of the Academy’s experience and its innovative products and services. One of these is the ASET system.

Assessment System for Employer Training - ASET

ASET Enables companies to gain recognition for the content, quality and delivery of their in-house training, and provides a clear demonstration of workforce competence.

The system benchmarks employer-delivered training against the competency requirements set out in the Cogent Sector Skills Council national Gold Standard for skills, covering technical competence, functional and behavioural skills, business improvement and compliance. All assessments are carried out by fully qualified verifiers.

ASET gives employers the opportunity to have their existing training accredited, and greatly expands the ways in which skills gaps can be identified and addressed.

ASET helps employers to:

  • Set out on the journey to a world-class workforce

  • Receive recognition for in-house training provision

  • Offer routes for employees to receive an accredited qualification

  • Access funding opportunities

Benefits

Employees benefit from credit and recognition for their hard work and achievements, available in a portable record of skills and training, which can help gain entry to further education, and boost their career prospects.

Experts from the Skills Academy can help Process Industries employers decide on the most appropriate journey for their organisation, in line with their business aims. This clear, ten-step process is described on the following weblink: http://www.process.nsacademy. co.uk/our-products/aset.aspx
