Skills Passport

A best practice example of the online skills management and training record system for Process Industries employers in ECRN member regions in the UK.

In conjunction with:

What is National Skills Academy Process Industries?

The National Skills Academy Process Industries is an employer-led centre of excellence launched to address skills and training needs throughout the chemical, polymer, and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors.

The Academy aims to help employers create a highly skilled workforce capable of competing on a global stage as well as promoting the process industries as a progressive and exciting career choice. One of its aims is to encourage employers to engage in frontline staff training so that their current workforce can achieve accredited qualifications to an industry-wide Gold Standard, developed by the Academy and Cogent Sector Skills Council (see details below).

Businesses in the UK ECRN member regions are taking advantage of the Academy’s experience and innovative products and services.hese is the ASET system.

Skills Passport

One of these products is Skills Passport (shown right). This is an imaginative and flexible method of recording and managing training and qualifications, benefiting employers and employees.

The Skills Passport provides process industry employers and their staff with a user-friendly online record of their accredited and non accredited training and qualifications, creating a full and portable skills profile of the learners.

The Skills Passport is a web-based system for which the Academy grants the participants a licence. The cost of this will depend upon the number of employees involved. Users are fully guided and trained by the Academy so businesses can take advantage of full functionality from day one.

The Skills Passport is designed to help employers to work towards the Cogent Sector Skills Council Industry Gold Standard for key job roles in the organisation. The Gold Standard is a national framework for Continuous Professional Development setting out the skills required for world class performance in key job roles in the process industries.

Gold Standard

The Gold Standard operates across four
areas of competence:

  • Technical Competence
  • Functional & Behavioural
  • Business Improvement
  • Compliance

It identifies skills gaps against the Standard
and matches the user with an Academy
quality-accredited Training Provider and
potential training programme.
